Coláiste Mhichíl was established in 2017 to revive the tradition of a former Irish language summer course in the beautiful Gaeltacht area of Ballinskelligs along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The Coláiste is co-educational, non-denominational and provides a two week Irish language DAY cúrsa in July for students from 10 to 18 years old.
The Coláiste will comprise of a Principal, and experienced and dedicated teachers. They are supported by qualified Cinnirí (leaders) who work with the students in the afternoon for timetabled sports and leisure activities and at night time at the Céilí. All staff are fluent Irish speakers and are qualified with the Department of Education and Science.
Coláiste Mhichíl’s immersive learning experience places an emphasis on speaking the Irish language. In a fun and enjoyable learning environment, the dedicated and highly skilled team of primary and secondary school teachers provide students with;
- the skills and confidence to engage with the spoken Irish language
- a strong focus on the Oral, Aural, Written and Reading components of the school curriculum
- a strong appreciation of our national culture and heritage
It is our primary aim to look after each and every student on the course and to ensure that they are supervised at all times. For this reason Coláiste Mhichíl run a non-residential course and students return home after their supervised daily lessons and activities / Céilí. Feedback from parents of former students have found this a hugely positive element of the course. They feel it provides an opportunity for students to relay their newly learnt skills to family members in the evening, engage in local community commitments such as sporting competitions and ‘rest up’ for the next action packed day.
“Beatha teanga í a labhairt” – mar sin, tapaigh an deis linne i gColáiste Mhichíl.
